Christmas Memories

Holidays are usually crazy but this year for me has been insane..in a good way! Soon after our engagement in Mexico, we started packing and painting to prepare our move into the new house. Even though it was an outrageous goal we decided that we wanted to move in before Christmas since I had family in town. Throw in your typical madness of the holidays and we were busy bee's. Although it was A LOT of work, it went relatively smooth with the help of our friends!

Then Christmas came and we ran around town to Shop, Attend Dinner Parties and Christmas Service. It was a whirlwind of a few days, but we made some amazing memories! I hope you did too!

My Thanksgiving Holiday

While on vacation, someone asked me " Do you see a vacation as a luxury or a necessity?". So I replied "Both". Yet, the more I actually think about it, I am really leaning towards the fact that it is a necessity. I prefer to travel on my vacations to change the scenery and experience something out of the ordinary.  Instead of going home for Thanksgiving this year, my bf and I decided to take a trip down to Mexico for some Sun and much needed R&R. Because of my body clock, I was up early every morning around 6am, but it was nice to have that time for some morning coffee, reading, and prayer.

Earlier this year, we took a trip down to Cabo San Lucas and bought a membership to a vacation program. It is similar to a timeshare except for the fact that you are staying at five star resorts all over the world. Traveling is a passion of ours and I plan to travel with my kids in the future some day, so it made good sense for us. I am excited to bring our family and friends next time. In fact, I think I might just make this an annual tradition during the Thanksgiving Holiday. The staff at the resort were amazing, they even had American Football on all the big screen TVs on Thanksgiving Day knowing that it was a huge deal for some Americans. Loved it! Here are just a few snapshots from the resort we stayed at.

We were in walking distance from the heart of Cabo. Stopped in Cabo Wabo for happy hour one day,

Oh and by the way, I have an exciting announcement!

Lately in Vegas

Last weekend, my cousins were in town. We gave them a 2 day tour of Vegas since it was their first time here. There is so much to do that really two days i s not enough but a good taste. We ate good food, got tickets to Le Reve at the Wynn and watched the Bellagio Fountains. All three things are a must. We also got to take them to Red Rock for some sightseeing. It was definitely a whirlwind of a weekend!

Well that was fast...I just bought a house!

Hello lovelies! I feel like I have been MIA lately but life happens and I have been preoccupied with buying my first house! Here is my story of the buying process.

To say the least, It has been a whirlwind of a week. I was approved to a buy a house several weeks ago but just started looking casually on all of the real estate websites and gathered my wish list.

1. Nice size yard-very hard to find in the Las Vegas market since they have a lot if cookie cutter homes.

2. Good location- of course real estate is always about location, location, location!

3. Something close to turnkey- I am not afraid of work but didn't want a money pit.

The next step was finding a realtor. Even though you can look for your own house on all of these websites, I still needed someone to help guide me and of course help me close the deal. My bf and I started working with an acquaintance and didn't have much luck. A few weeks ago, we decided to check out an open house in our neighborhood, right across the street. Walking in, I was hesitant to let them know that I was looking to buy since I didn't want to be bothered by another realtor just looking for a sale. We walked in to meet a married realtor team and they seemed really nice and genuine. After chatting with them, I agreed to let them send houses that fit my criteria. I left thinking," I guess it doesn't hurt to let them send us some listings". That afternoon, I received my first email from them and the days after, they were very professional and determined to help. It was a no brainer to choose them as my Realtors plus the two for one deal was quite appealing.

The following Sunday, the Realtors already had 7 houses lined up to look at. Even though I spent weeks looking at houses online, actually seeing the houses in person was a much different experience. You really cannot judge a book by its cover in the real estate world. I even had nicknames for each of the houses we visited. The Old Man House, Halloween Party, and The Stinker were just to name a few. I was quite exhausted by the end of the day.

After the seven houses, we narrowed it down to two choices. One that was over our budget and one that was right at our budget. We decided to put an offer on the first pick, although we knew it required a lot of work. Turns out it wasn't meant to be, because apparently the seller claimed they had an offer they were considering. Our next pick was a charming, one story house in a central location, that was in our budget and mostly fit all of our "must-haves". The Vegas market is incredibly competitive so in order to have any chance in buying this house, we needed to move FAST. So we did, and I put an offer out the next day. The offer was accepted within 24 hours and within a few days..... I had BOUGHT A HOUSE..OMG!

To be quite honest, although I was excited about this whole process, I was kinda freaking out that it went by so fast. I am the type of person that takes my time with my decisions, even when I am shopping for shoes. I need to time analyze and over analyze like some girls do. :) My bf did a great job educating  me about the market and the investment that I was making and really put my decision to ease. Our realtor noticed that "spark" from me when I walked into this house. In the end I really love it and I am so excited to be a homeowner. Now my head is churning with ideas for designing and cannot wait to start my projects. Here is a sneak preview of my first home!

Life is Beautiful

Well, I guess there is always something going on here in Las Vegas but I think most people only hear about all the excitement on the strip. There is another part of Vegas that is gaining a lot of attention and that is the "downtown" area or as most people would consider it the "old strip". There is new movement to revitalize this area called the Downtown Project and it is an exciting time!

The Life is Beautiful Festival was held downtown this past weekend and I could not miss the opportunity to go. Music, Art, Food, and Learning..this is my kind of scene. I love going to festivals and I could not miss the one in my own town. Famous chef's and some of the best restaurants in Vegas catered their delicious cuisine. Fine dining food at a music festival WHAT?! I was in heaven. Nobu served my favorite yellowtail jalepeno and I tried some black truffle pasta from Artisanal Foods. There is artwork everywhere as you walk the streets of downtown. I would have taken more pictures, but my phone died . Here are a few snapshots of a happy time

The music was so fun! Imagine Dragons put on a spectacular show with a unforgettable Percussion/Cirque performance at the end. Capital Cities, Alabama Shakes, Kings of Leon were a few other bands we got to see preform. I think the festival was an awesome way to put Vegas on the map as   a place full of arts and culture outside the Vegas Strip. It was a good time and I hope this festival becomes an annual event for Vegas.

Life is truly Beautiful!!

Pumpkins in the Desert

Yes, it is true. We have pumpkins in the desert too. Actually it is a orchard where you can pick your own fruits and seasonal vegetables. I have been eagerly waiting to visit the pumpkin patch and finally went this weekend. The orchard is definitely different than the ones I am used to in Michigan but I'll take it! Beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, apple cider, donuts..what more could you ask for in Vegas?

Happy Halloween!

Boat Season is Officially Over

Well it looks like our boat season is over in Vegas. Last year, it was nice enough to use the boat through November but with the government shutdown this year we were forced to take the boat out early.  Lake Mead was quiet and empty and the state park officers only allowed us to get in and out. We made the best of it though and brought Tucker out with us. So long boat we will see you next summer! Here comes the pouting from the bf. :(
